Welcome! I am so excited we get to meet!
My name is Loidaly (pronounced Loy-duh-lee) Rosario-Singer. In academic spaces, I go by my pre-marriage name, Dr. González-Rosario. I am originally from Puerto Rico, la Isla del Encanto but spent the majority of my young life in Miami, FL. I navigate this world through nearly three languages, English, Spanish, and the very Puerto Rican mix of Spanglish. My thoughts, feelings, and ideas get jumbled in different languages in my head and the words that come out depends on the recipient of my communication. Sometimes I am a master at this, other times people join me for the ride.
My background is in school counseling and I am licensed as a professional counselor (associate) in North Carolina. I am perpetually journeying to understand myself and the world around me. I am passionate about the mental well-being of culturally and linguistically diverse families. I believe as professional counselors and counselor educators, we are called to be social justice advocates in our sessions, our community, and globally. I thrive off of opportunities where we can come together at a table (physically or virtually) and learn from each other’s lives, and experiences with a common goal. I believe the best work is done at the intersection of identities and professions.
When I am not trying to understand complex world problems, I like to enjoy the simple things in life. Wellness for me involves gardening, long-walks, cooking good and hearty food from around the world, and of course some serious Netflixing. I believe we need to decolonize wellness and increase wellness accessibility to all communities.
Research Agenda
My research interests center on collaborative work to increase the holistic wellness of culturally and linguistically diverse children, birthing people, and their families. Recently, this work has focused on health equity and reproductive justice. I work in birth equity spaces as a doula and a perinatal mental health therapist. I am currently working to design and implement a Perinatal Mental Health First Aid Training to equip birth doulas and other community health workers to support the race-related stressors of BIPOC birthing people. In the recent past, my work has centered on using nonverbal creative interventions to support culturally and linguistically diverse students within schools.
